Re: What I bought today
Got all my Hobbit sets now save a heap of money getting it at the boxing day sale at myers.
My mum found my last set yesterday Riddles For the Ring at Big-w it seems big-w always try to under cut all the other stores as you can save $1-$5rrp but they don't have good sales best one have been MYER and Target with 20%-60%off when on sale.

Busted my budget, but I've finally been able to get one of these.
Really like that set I want to get it too, also been after 7750 - my euro contact got an almost perfect (opened) copy but I just cant take the $700 plunge on it
p.s - after extensive browsing to see the new sets on offer in aussie stores i'm a little annoyed to see on average a 35% mark up over identical items I saw recently in Japan.. boooooooo >_<
Re: What I bought today
Set 7750 - I can see why you want one Kaila, but at $700 I'd be left wishing too.

Re: What I bought today
Wow, I checked out prices for 7750 on Bricklink and one guy in Italy is wanting $NZ546.80 for one and it's glued together! There's another one MISB with shelf wear on the box and they want $NZ4,794.37 for it! I'm never going to complain about prices for the MOT series ever again!
When you finally get one Kaila are you going to keep it in a bank vault?

It's interesting you mention those sets, for the good part of a year I've been watching BL on the 80's trains and anything decent is snapped up fast leaving the same old ad's and sets untouched - and most for good reason given they want too much or the condition is predominantly crap. I found this private Netherlands dealer who sources outside of BL and his stuff is always quality albeit for a slight premium price.
Anyway yeah 7750 is a gem and I should get a vault to go with it lol
Re: What I bought today

When some more cash rolls in I really want to focus on collecting original space also, there's something really special about those sets that I can't quite explain..
What amazes me is that some people actually kept these boxes for 30 odd years.. I mean seriously out of all the Lego I had as a child I only managed to keep 2 boxes and that was just luck. Glad those kinds of people exist though since collecting would be hard without them..
Re: What I bought today
Check it out the old mailvan, believe me this was a PAIN to find in good nick..
Re: What I bought today
Ooooooooo a 12volt Mail van Good score! I've got one of those on my list too.
I think the old Space sets were something special as they were released around the time of the first major space missions. Back then the space missions were big news and were really something and caught peoples' imagination. I can remember being out in the carpark with the whole 6th form Physics class crowded around our teacher's old Holden listening to the broadcast on the car radio when Neil Armstrong took those first steps on the moon.

you should see my space lego .. after 30 years of use. the colours faded, decals all gone,

i used to collect the boxes, till one time, i went to a school camp, came back and my boxes were all gone, actually, because i make sure no -one re-sells me lego collection i guess its why i started to throw my boxes out, but i kept all my harry potter and star wars boxes, i'm more of a large scale builder, . i'm the type who has a box of wheels form all the cars, ( for the grand-kids) yet, they don;t fit into construction, till i saw the window tyre rim idea, amazing, , its just the city lego boxes. i throw out, not much room for all the boxes in my room
Re: What I bought today
Got one of these today
Both points virtually new and in their original box too.
Edit: And i forgot to mention that I also got a really great Trains catalog from 1980 from the same supplier. It's written in Danish, but fortunately the pictures all seem to be in English.

Hey nice Annie I remember getting that set when I was 6. Of course the box is long gone sadly.. could you lend me your nice new one?
Re: What I bought today
The box is slightly crumpled, but still nice and clean and not faded so it's definitely a keeper. I can see that I'm going to have to figure out a way to safely store old set boxes and other 'paper' materials such as catalogs, instruction sheets and the like now that I'm getting more of them.
No plans to pass on this set box at the moment Kaila, but should I decided I want to I'll keep your name at the top of the list.
