Review - 4434 Tip truck
Hi all! I haven't posted in a while! I appologise for this, I've been a little busy and forums have taken a back seat. I've always said that to build a community you have to contribute, so here's my latest offering.
Welcome to the next installment of my City reviews, the Tip Truck. I bought this as it is another one of the latest additions in the City line and my construction crew really need a Tip Truck to help with different projects around my City. I bought it from Target on sale for $23. It was a piece of cake to assemble. It takes about 20 minutes to go together and looks pretty good once finished.
Name: Tip Truck
Theme: City
Year: 2012
Pieces: 222
Minifigs: 2
Price: AUD $29.99 (S@H)
The front of the box:
The back of the box:
The contents.
Some new pieces, well at least for me anyway. First, the new hinge. This doesn't completely close down like the old one.
The side panels for the tray.
The end panels for the tray.
The wheelbarrow!! How awesome is this!
The kit complete:
The leftover bits:
Front Right:
Back Right:
Inside of the tray:
Other side of the tray and chassis:
Front left:
Overall, I think this is a pretty cool truck. It has been well designed and has plenty of accessories for the price. It looks good and the tipper functions well. For me, that wheelbarrow is a stand-out piece, I'm really glad that TLG included it in the set. I'm not real fussed with the light bar, I think I'll design something different in time. Also, the payload gets stuck sometimes on the exposed studs on the floor of the tray, so I think I might comepletely line it with tiles. I would have also liked to have seen the cab a different colour, maybe yellow, but I can live with the orange. These, however, are my only gripes. This set is a great addition to anyone's City layout, particularly if you have a construction crew.
I reccommend this set!
Enjoy!

Great review marvinblue
I have my sights on buying one or two very soon however before I do that I had better build my two Dump Truck sets # 7631 so I can add both trucks to my own collection and layout !!!

Thanks for the review, marvinblue.
Looking at the new hinge makes me want to go and buy one to see how compatible the hinge is with some of the older vehicles with a hinge.

Long time no see marvinblue, good to see you back.
Brickie, the new hinge is pretty similar to the old one with one huge difference. There is a one plate gap between the two parts when closed. I hoped it was an update for my 70's sets too :-( I've got a bag of extras of the old ones though, so PM me if you're after a few to restore old favourites.

Thanks for that info on the hinge.
The old hinge was wonderful; back in late 80s, my kids loved the yellow tractor/dump truck. It still gets used by the grandkids but they get frustrated because the hinge often holds tight when down.

Brickie, in that case the new hinge might be just the thing since it can be used with a tile in between the two parts eliminating the possibility of it getting stuck.

Re: Review - 4434 Tip truck
I had no interest in getting this set (except for the wheel barrow) but now I can see lots of pieces I want (the end and side panels in particular).
Thanks for the review.

Nice review, but suggestion use a plain background and backdrop to shoot against.
Orange is a common colour for road maintenance vehicles in Europe.
Great vehicle, we over due for a simple dumper in city that wasn't a heavy duty mining one.
