I think I have a serious problem - I can't stop buying Lego.

Someone needs to get Kevin Rudd's internet filtering policy to include bricklink on the list - cause it is sending me bankrupt!!! legowink Actually while they're at it, add ebay to the list too! :P

Back onto topic - how much Lego do you think is too much? What is the size of people's collections? How many sets versus loose bricks?

I recently passed the 260 set mark and it is growing at an alarming rate!

Yes, I am nuts. The worst thing is that at least 150 sets would of been added since September last year. When I came out of my second "dark" age.

Just this weekend I have basically added all of the large classic Pirate sets to my collection - thats going to cost me around $1,500+

My wife is beginning to not like me anymore! :P

I'll have to update my collection on peeron and post it for a laugh.

LOL - I thought it was a good all round set for parts - got them b/w 25% - 30% off so they werent too expensive.

The Twilights were from the Lego S@H site - 50% off. So another bargain.

I was lucky with the Town Plans, just happened to be in Myer on the 1 day only sale 25% off Lego, so I go three extra ones to keep MISB.

The hard part now is storing all the boxes, instructions, etc.

I know, I know... crazy. I just thought for the amount of pieces you got it was a bargain.

I've promised the wife not to buy anymore Lego till the end of May. A $3,000 weekend spent on Lego is not conducive to financial wellbeing!!

I just have to bide my time and wait for all the cool new sets coming out in the rest of this year!

What sets do you have in your 105 set collection? Do you have different themes?

You can never have too much LEGO, as long as you've got money for other important things in live, and space to store all the bricks! legowink

If you want to maximise your LEGO buying and minimise your costs, I advise you to search smaller and more local auction sites or trade listings, because that's where you get LEGO cheap because sellers are less aware of it's value, and there aren't many buyers around to raise the price. Here in NZ, I've scored a healthy collection of BIONICLE sets of Trade Me, because hardly anyone likes BIONICLE in this smaller market! :legoeyeshutlaughing:

Speaking of BIONICLE, that;s where the bulk of my LEGO sets come from, with well over 120 sets from there. I've got a decent amount of SYSTEM too, but not nearly as much. I really should get a Brickset account and tally my sets... legoneutral:

I'd say if its starting to cause problems like your wife not liking you thats too much.

I must admit I was looking at the Police station at a buy two get one free Myer sale, because I thought it would be
great for parts. The twilight would be pretty good too, but all the themed sets start off pretty expensive so you need
a big discount for it to be a bargain.

How come you want to keep the town plans MIB? If its for investment/speculation you've got to be careful. Over the long
term lego can be a poor investment. It's normally better to invest the money elsewhere. In the short term, parting out the
set and selling the parts on Bricklink is probably more profitable, but with Australia's higher prices you do need to get
discounted sets to make this worthwhile.

BTW brickset tells me I have 206 sets, but that doesnt include any of my 70's train and town stuff, which I had a lot
of from pre dark age, and then went on a largeish nostalgia fired collecting spree for a couple of years. I need more
lego however because my plan is to have a lego train layout. I already have a room picked out for it legosmile2

Im farely sure that when you can fill a room with lego.. you need to buy a bigger house to put the lego in. Never can you have to much lego it is an imposible thing...
heres an idea instead of spending heaps of money getting stuff we could set up a trading post on ANZFOL that allows you to put your lego up for trade and people can tell you there offer and if you want that set then you trade..
anyone like my idea

A good idea it is, but it becomes too tricky when you want to start posting things and you have disputes etc. and all of a sudden the staff become responsible. We'll look into it when we have a bigger member base though. ; )

I don't think you can have too much but it can cost too much and that's probably why the misses is upset.
Lego doesn't seem to depreciate in value so you're buying an investment.
I have a room dedicated to Lego so to most people I have a problem. Collecting trains chews up a lot of space.
Fortunately my kids have outgrown Lego now so I don't have to fight for pieces anymore.

It mostly doesn't appreciate faster than inflation though, so it's not a _good_ investment. It's OK in that after you've finnished playing with it you can sell it all and probably recoup a decent slice of your cost (much better than other toys) but I wouldn't be planning on making money out of it.

Any kind of obsessive behaviour that keeps out of important things in life, that makes you forget about anything that really should not is not healthy nor good at all. Yes you can call it Lego smokes... alcohol.... drugs... whatever, it doesn't matter at all mate. The difficult thing is to admit how compulsive/obsessive I am becoming for buying or doing or getting anything instead of enjoy a walk'n talk with my wife. As some one mention before, as long as you have the money... space... etc to afford it fine, but don't let it take control of you, if that happens the hobbie will turn you into its slave, and that mate... sucks! (being there legoheadbang )
I really enjoy my sets... my mocs... but, personally, I don't get frustrated if I don't buy anything new in weeks.
Any way... humble and personal opinion, you are free to do as you wish... and above all enjoy it

According to Brickset, I have 47 sets. I think I might be begining to tamper off, as my loungeroom rug is almost covered, that's the goal. I'll still pick up the odd-set here and there, once I finish this year's purchases. Still, as long as you and your family are happy, healthy and not broke, then you can never have too much Lego!! legohappy-5:
