I signed up here ages ago but never really logged on much but with being told of an Adelaide LUG starting, I thought I should introduce myself.

I grew up in the classic space era and still have all my childhood sets including the boxes. Except for a few years in the 80s and 90s I've always taken some interest in Lego and bought a set or two. However back in the early 2000s I discovered bricklink and went a bit crazy trying to buy up all the old classic space sets I missed out on as a child (including some I'd never even seen pictures of before). This led me to other themes, particularly Star Wars which I already had a couple sets, and some of the other space themes I was a little too old for at the time like Space Police 1.

More recently I've got into Castle (the fantasy era line), last year's Pirates (I have the imperial flagship all sorted into tubs in my Lego room, ready to build), and the new Harry Potter that go nicely with the bunch of Prisoner of Azkaban sets I already own. Next year I'm looking forward to Pharaoh's Quest and maybe Pirates of the Caribbean (depending on what the sets look like).

My top 10 sets I own (in no particular order)

1. Medieval Market Village (so many regular pieces, beautiful colours and great accessories)
2. Battle of Alamut (gorgeous design, the pearl gold, medium dark flesh and new arches are beautiful)
3. Holiday Train (not one for purist train lovers but so big and fun, and puts me in a Christmas mood every time I bring it out in early December)
4. Studios Scary Laboratory (Frankenstein's monster, and great decorated pieces like orange jack o lantern and purple brain on trans clear head)
5. Shrieking Shack (Looks great in Harry Potter or Christmas set up, very few specialised pieces and some great decorated pieces like chocolate bar tile)
6. Beta Command base (Classic space set I played with for hundreds of hours as a child, it has a view screen, monorail, space ship, and small vehicle, what more could a boy ask for)
7. Dwarves' Mine (so much playability and I picked it up for $52.50 at Myer when it first came out)
8. Bounty Hunter Pursuit (a strange choice for my fave SW set, but two beutiful ships, that are solid and just so swooshable and great chrome and decorated pieces)
9. The Bat Cave (monster set with so many features and figs, fortunately I've always liked Batman so got this when it first came out).
10. Imperial Flagship (although not built yet, just the sorting and looking through the instructions tells me this will be in my top ten)

Great to hear that you're planning on becoming a little more active! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you contribute to ANZFOL. So do you get to MOC much? And have you or do you plan to attend either Brickvention or Brick Expo in 2011?

I'm not much of a MOCer. I did build a giant Hoth Base but it is fairly basic as my skills don't allow any better. I do have about 50 classic space sets I re-did in the blacktron 1 colours, but that's more MODing.

I haven't been to any of the big events interstate, but some time I plan to visit one of the Legolands in Europe.

Welcome Hewman. Always appreciate your Aussies Sales inputs.

I have to agree with you with some of your top ten.

Love MMV and Imperial Flagship. Imperial Flagship sits on top of my TV cabinet with a downlight straight over it.

Still in my dark ages when Batcave was out. But agree its an excellent set.

Have to look up some of your others.

Hope to see more of your posts here.
