who is Captain Zuloo? if they are the creators/admins of this place they sure dont get too involved in participating much........

Zuloo is part of Admin team, always fixes password problems for the good old tiger. legolaugh

i have made a cheap simple chat room. i will leave it up for 48hrs. if it goes down well, i may be willing to purchase a permanent one for the forum as a gift

Eh don't pay money for it Jigsaw! The current forum we have has a chat feature already built into it's framework, it just needs to be enabled (I built and ran an unrelated forum using the same host for years)

Of course that would be up to the current admins to discuss/trial etc though, perhaps if your linked chatroom is a success they could enable it? But it's up to them.

After adminning for so long I can attest to both the benefits and drawbacks a chat feature can lead to, it's not all roses and sunshine regrettably legosweat2 although I believe the ages and culture to be a lot more adult/civil and respectful around here, so in theory it should work just fine.

The creators of the forum were a couple of teens who long since got bored with it and wandered off. Zuloo was a bit older and had web design skills and helped them out a bit and was given admin status. He is currently spending more time playing in a band I think (he used to be on the pirate forum staff on EB too). At one stage we were considering migrating to a server which we control, so I was given admin status temporarily as I worked as a programmer in a past life. I've essentially been left the keys to the shop. Brickie is the only other admin that you might see around, I added him since I spend a lot less time online lately.

I'm hesitant to enable chat here because it's far more open to abuse and there's no-one around to police it. If you set a chat room up for yourselves and it's successful I'd be inclined to not mess with something that works.

Edit: BTW I've never looked around the admin stuff enough to have seen any reference to chat, and I'm not inclined to legosmile2

Ok, back to the chat conversation.. what is everyone's idea of every friday night 7pm AEST?

if we make it a set time, would more people use it? once a week for now sounds more viable

Yeah, having a set time might increase usage - I don't mind when it is, I'd just remind myself to go on at that time.
