After finding some spare time, I have started building a locomotive.
Modelled on the Danish (DSB) MT class diesel.

It's a work in progress, so no harsh comments please. Edit: It is finished. See page 2.

A photo of the real thing for comparison:

Nice work so far, perhaps an arch roof on top might look more like the picture you supplied.
But still great work so far....keep going and Brick On ! legohappy

Very nice. I like the simple colours on this train.

You've certainly caught the character and general proportions of this loco just fine.

I was wondering about making the roof curved, but if I did i'd have to eliminate the warning lights and the sunshades.

So i'm leaning towards keeping the flat roof.

I have solved your curved roof problem......use 1x1 slope 30 pieces along the side edges of the roof...it will sort of look right. legowink

I like the flat roof. Are you going to make the matching passenger coach in the background of the photo you supplied?

Lightningtiger:

Thanks for the ideas, but I decided to keep the roof at a height of 2 plates. Adding cheese slopes means it would need to be taller.

Ajax:

I don't know how soon, but sometime i'll build DSB passenger coaches. They will most likely repesent the ones in that photo, yes.

Great train, Red Five.

To represent the rusting old loco, I wonder how it would look made from some old scratched black bricks or some reddish brown bricks. lego8O

Overall I think it looks good but the cab area looks a little clunky in places.

You could replace the handrails either side of the door with something a little smaller, perhaps a snotted 1x2 plate with rail, or even the head of an ice pick.

I'd try and hide the ends of the sun shades too, the black is very distracting.

Nice choice of prototype, any reason you're building Danish trains?

DSB MT - still w.i.p.

That is my attempt at weathering. Looks rather disgusting. legoneutral2

I'm happy with the grab rails, I don't think icepicks are available in black. legoneutral2
Though I might replace the sunshades with some red tiles.

Is there a reason for you building German trains? lego:3
I started building Danish trains because their fleet was mainly diesels,
and therefore I can avoid building catenary masts and overhead wiring and such.

Overall I'd say this is a successful loco MOC. Allowing for the compromises that have to be made with working in Lego your loco is immediately recognisable as being a model of the prototype.
Are you thinking of building any other Danish locos at all?

Nice. We had something very similar to that here in Nz, the Dg class, I always liked them. This one is in preservation which is why it looks so clean and shiny.

Interesting loco. It definatly has that period look, and reminds of some of the ugly locos that served in Queensland. legolaugh

As suggested on Flickr i've added front handrails.

The MT is pretty much finished for now. But I need to learn more about lighting setups. The red looks too bright here.

Nice, now you can use those slope pieces though it means the main roof section is only 2 stud wide and supported by the end windows. legowink
