My Lego City Empty My Lego City

Post by timmyc1983 Wed 16 Jan 2013, 8:39 am

Hi all,

I'm new around here (mainly cos i've just got crazy back into Lego after about a 15 year (unwanted) hiatus) and when i was into Lego heaps originally, these sorts of forums didn't exist, or if they did i wasn't aware of forums (showing my age there haha)

Anyway, i wanted to link you to the video i just uploaded of my new town but it won't let me cos i haven't been a member for 7 days yet legosad but i can't wait that long to y'all. So i have put some pics here for you and if you are keen to see the vid, search Lego Town January 2013 on youtube and it should be the first vid on the list (my user name is TheTimmyc1983)

I hope you guys like it, and any comments and suggestions are more than welcome legohappy

I always enjoy seeing vintage City Sets incoporated into layouts as it is where my passion for LEGO began all those years ago legohappy

I've still got most of mine but its not set up as a layout because I have shifted focus to build a new layout for display purposes for later this year !!!!

Happy building legohappy

Thanks Lightningtiger legohappy i would like to try some MOCs but all the spare bricks i have aren't really appropriate. Maybe when i have to pull my city down i will venture into some MOCs but i'm expecting a couple more sets (including my firsst ever Lego train!!) so i think city expansion is first on the list!!

Just buy some city and creator sets going out on clearance and then you'll have your MOC'ing parts.

Hmmm yeah i should do that! The white house with the red roof on the right hand side of the last last pic is a half MOC, i based it on Town House (6372) but i didn't have the right bricks to do it to the letter ahaha so i 'made do'. But your MOCs are amazing!! I don't think i could make anything close to yours!

It takes years of practice.....good old trial and error stuff.
Find something real and model from that while adding your own touch to it......like I do.

Thanks for sharing Timmy, My lazy partner won't clean out our Studio leaving me no space to start building mt city yet, I swear if its not cleaned out by mid year Im going to start taking it all to the tip, It was built for me (a properly lined and fitted out double garage) 6 years ago and its still filled with JUNK, thats what you get living with a Hoarder.

Some of the friends sets are great, I think Timmys city above has the old Paradise sets not the friends sets, they have similar colours though.

I took matters into my own hands with that. I have since moved this city to a room i diyed into a 'Lego Room' under the house. It's perfect, out of everybody's way but plenty of space for expansion. And there will be a new update video pretty soon. I've got a few new sets and much better display shelf under the house (which i built over the past couple of weeks)

Yeah there are a few Paradiso sets there, all bought when i was a youngen! haha. I haven't given much thought to the Friends sets, are they worth a look?

The Friend's sets are great for pastel coloured parts and accessories which are also suitable for minifigs......I have used some in my Target Country MOC.

I like some of the Friends sets, Of course you need to discard the people/girl figures as they dont match and some of the animals look out of place in a regular lego city but the colours are nice and different, if you can incorporate some regular colours into the sets they look even better and not out of place at all. The Friends Camper Van makes a great Ice Cream truck with a few modifications, check this out.

Post by spongo Wed 20 Feb 2013, 2:02 am

well, as , i went through my lego images and reduced them to 600 by 800, i'll soon be able to show everyone, "the joy of friends lego", you tube NY toy fair lego videos on youtube all , youtube lego reviewers have the new high school, (canada only sales of single bags of purple cars and cafe extra's ) i doubt australia toy-stores like "toys are us " has a special bag section)
- but as for the aussie range, 8 more days till teenage mutant ninja turtles hype, i've been watching them on youtube, pretending i've got them already,. march 2013, . whoo hoo, walking into the shops, to get the TMNT. has the islamic colours for the drain pipe underworld as in the " prince of persia . disney lego " i call them, ginger bread lego, cos, i use them at x-mas time to build my x-mas sets. sounds better saying islamic lego, cos i was trying so hard to do the hindu. taj mahal , but i avoid white lego, as it always fades from over use, i rather like the new pastels. new yellow , 2 purples, 3 pinks now, ( 1980 pink, and the belvedeer, paridiso dark pink is recycled i guess in friends lego
-
as for friends range,
-
its so great to have a lego set range, that caters for the adventure series again, .. friends lego not just gives us extra sinks . and bathrooms, showers, taps . ovens for kitchens ..
for the fun of the new lego range is based on our love of adventure. it is all about, horse , camps, camper-van, ponies, soccer,. basketball,. fishing. vet. bakery,. waterslides
-
and the new 600 piece water cruiser."dolphin cruiser" with jet skies, . lol, even the boys are buying them, ..
-
though its mainly for the grand kids,. they love how its pink lego, and actully, because i get annoyed that the womens sections in lego playsets have way less " teen girl " charm, i even make the womens dorm room in hogwwarts into the proper colours.

Yes I love how the Friends sets are about adventuresome getting out and about and doing stuff together. I think the City and Town sets somehow ended up being 'same old same old' and quite moribund and boring. I mean who needs yet another Police and Fire set and I don't even bother to look at them anymore when i get the chance to get to one of the toy stores in one of the surrounding larger towns.

Post by spongo Wed 20 Feb 2013, 7:16 am

you know, back in the day, i;d find it funy to find a lego website,. cos i never thought i'd have enough lego
-
i find it interesting, how i read my e-mail inbox, and get a message about this topic,
-
. i used to be , so, busy trying to set up my lego storylines , i'd forget to join a proper lego site, yes,. well, its not untill, one dis-assembles everything apart, into the lego colours, and put it together like a construction site, , that it occured to me i had 2 side walls for the hogwarts to be 7 sotories high, , and
-
city lego does play a part , sometimes, i like the lego ambulance cos it had the special bricks, and white archways to do the hogwarts castle . i only buy lego, specific to my plans.
-
though i like these new white display cases,. 4 cases with a 1980's blue space man,
-
ha ha , i loved the blue lego so much, i had more blue space men, than any other, but then, my castle lego took over, in the next decade, so, yes, its mostly, my dream to finally do the hogwarts castle in 2017 , set myself a time scale to buy the new 2013 castle lego . and display it at some lego event one day,. have myself, a. publicist to buy my lego for me, so i'm not pickie about it, have some lego groupies,.. lol, sounds funny. you tubers, have all the fun
