i think i found myself a hefty challenge to work on (MOC, WIP)
i think i just found myself a long-term MOC challenge.
In april we were in Copenhagen for easter, and as shown before i went to legoland. the tourist precinct of Copenhagen has a part called Nyhaven, by the water full of restaurants, shops, bars etc.. i took a photo of it as shown below:
as a fan of Modulars, and with a small arsenal of bricks at my disposal, i have decided to attempt to make this puppy! what i will do first is make it in LDD, then i will attempt it with real bricks.
Legoland Billund has already done this of course with a couple of million bricks. they use a scale much larger than minifig scale:
what i will try and do i think is to try and make a minifig/modular building scale version of this. it will be a little bit simpler, smaller but i will endeavour to make it as close as i can. i wont have all the bricks, so i see some hefty purchasing coming up in the future.
im thinking of making this on a 48x48 baseplate instead of 32x32 as the retail modulars are. this is so i can add the street umbrellas and footpath crowd. sadly at this stage i dont think i will make the canal and boats, let's see how far i actually get first!
so, round 1: LDD! i may and try and put 2 buildings on a 48x48 where i can, that is still a few stubs wider than the 16x16 lego uses for pet store etc.
how long? who knows. will i succeed? who knows, but im going to give it a crack, and that's all you can do.

Okay, you need to check out the recent topics in the town forum on EB....there are quite a few Dutch builders there and right now a guy called 'The Dutch Guy' is building similar structures.....also many European AFOL's try this kind of massive build.
I wish you luck indeed 'JS' and Brick On !

if it becomes impossible to do (more than likely) at the very least i will use nyhaven as inspiration for MOC buildings to place in between the standard modulars.
i was working on my own Cafe corner of different colours, but that can wait

Like I said check out Eurobricks town forum to see what some members there come up with for modulars.

im going to do 2 sets of 8 modulars, to break it up a bit. so far 2 unfurnished ones are done, will revisit them in the future to tweak a bit more.
