Lego Clubs
Hi
I was a fan of Lego as a child, but nothing like it seems some of you are, My 9 year old son is also crazy about Lego, it seems like it's all he ever does, so much so that he doesnt like any other extra curricular activities, I am finding it impossible to get him to join clubs like football or scouts or something, because he is just not interested. I would like him to be part of something he enjoys so I was thinking of starting a lego club so he could meet new people and do something he loves at the same time, I have put some thought into it, but when i think of trying to find a suitable venue, and how I'm going to store the Lego, and how I would purchase the lego I feel so overwhelemed. I was just wondering if anyone else had started or been to a Lego club, and if you have any suggestions on how to get started?
Thanks

Re: Lego Clubs
I've been a fan of Lego forever, but only lately have tried to make my love a 'social' one. I joined this forum not long ago and chatted to some of my local (Adelaide) members and subsequently went along to a meeting.
Ours is a small group at the moment and we hold our meetings at a Lego shop called 'Laygo'. Maybe see if there are ony other members of this forum from your area and see what they do.

Hello steph83
Welcome to ANZFOL.
In what town do you live?
As haz said, it would be advantageous to contact the LUG in your state e.g. if you were in SE Qld, you could contact BLTG.
Please give us a location.

Re: Lego Clubs
Hi Steph,
Brickie is correct there are existing clubs in most capitals.
MUGs in Melbourne, SYDlug in Sydney, PALs in Perth. Many are focused on adults more than kids (though some have kid based groups also like MUGs Jnr).
Most groups start up as a few friends meeting at one of their homes. If it is to be child focused you can probably recruit members from your sons school.
Venues can be tricky but a good idea is to check with your local council and library. They often hire rooms cheaply to community groups.
None of the clubs I know of buy LEGO to provide for members (apart from some of the LEGO train clubs who have commonly owned track etc), most members bring their own. That would avoid a huge expense for you.
Hope some of these suggestions help, though we could probably be more helpful if we knew which city your in.
