Welcome aboard sir! When you say new to collecting, do you mean new to collecting all together or new since childhood?
Also, have you attended any of Australia's LEGO fan events: Brick Expo or Brickvention?

Check out the MUGS tab on the Brickventures site, for a Lego users group with monthly meetings. There are a few other Star Wars collectors in Mugs.
