Often times, in battle, there would be a few cannon balls and some gunpowder stored right next to the guns. Perhaps you could do something like that in that 4 x 4 space next to the ladders. For cannon balls, your best bet is probably the bludger piece in the Harry Potter sets (from Quiddich).

yeah I've made some creates with powder bags and cannon balls that will be added later.
I'm lucky enough to have the Quidich supplies set for those balls too.
