Re: Down under downunder
Ahoy there matey! Welcome to ANZFOL. I'm Captain Zuloo, ANZOL's resident Pirate Administrator (or was it manchild?).
I look forward to seeing your posts and MOCs. There is also a special forum rank assigned only to pirates fans which can be awarded if you play your cards right...
You should try to meet up with Free Spirit at some point, he's also from Tas and he's a great bloke.
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to shoot me an email.

Re: Down under downunder
I've started a tazbrick forum and free spirit was my first member we have yet to catch-up but have alot planned for the Tassie FOL scene.
Cheers Captain
ps Have you ever heard the Black seas barracuda referred to as
"THE DARK SHARK" I only ask because I've had this set for 20 years and was convinced that was it's name (maybe in the comic form 1989 as i read it religiously as a kid) cheers in advance

Re: Down under downunder
I'm not sure how successful a Tazbrick forum will be due to the limited number of Tasmanian FOLs (ANZFOL is quite enough as it is), but I'm pleased to hear that you have big things planned for Tassie. Have you heard about Brick Expo or Brickvention?TazManiac wrote:I've started a tazbrick forum and free spirit was my first member we have yet to catch-up but have alot planned for the Tassie FOL scene.
LEGO gave a lot of their sets a few different names. The ones I know of for the BSB:TazManiac wrote:

* Dark Shark (England)
* Vascello dei pirati (Italy)
* Barracuda de la Mer Noire (Canada)
* Piratenbrigantine (Germany)
* Requin Noir (France)
* De Zeeschuimer (Netherlands)
I'm not really sure why, but it seems the case of many sets that they have different names (including multiple English ones). For example, I grew up thinking that the Skull's Eye Schooner was called the Black Skull.
Re: Down under downunder
Cheers
the reason i started Tazbrick was really just to get locals together and with the few Tasmanian FOLs spread across multi forums it seemed easier to have a home base and it seems to be doing it's job .( it's more or less a notice board )
I don't want to poach members I dig knowing what's happening else where!

I think there's a use for both a national forum like ANZFOL and more local ones. I tend to be a bit biased towards email lists for local stuff though since it may be more time sensitive (shop sales, meeting reminders etc) and I read my email daily but only come here every couple of days. I guess most forums allow you to subscribe to email reminders for watched topics though so it's probably just a preference thing.

Re: Down under downunder
It is great to have you aboard TazManiac as I am really looking forward to catching up at the upcoming display this Saturday.
Since you've created the new local forum I think LEGO enthusiasts will come out of the brick work in force to show their skills.
Cheers...Free Spirit

Re: Down under downunder
Looks like there is a pretty strong LEGO following in Tassie - good luck with Tazbrick guys.
(BTW, we would have been happy to have an ANZFOL subforum for Tazbrick - you just gotta ask. )

That sounds like a great idea to me, I think it would work much better having everything together on the same forum.
