MOC: DE 1428 Empty MOC: DE 1428

Post by Captain Havoc Tue 29 Jun 2010, 5:15 am

Hi, sorry I haven't posted any MOCs for a long time as I stopped building them for a while. I am now currently working on a PF steam train, a Shay loco, and a small scene from a Redcoat port. I have almost finished the first episode of the new series, The Adventures Of Captain Havoc.

This is a model of a rare New Zealand-run DE class locomotive, intended to stand in place of the old steam shunters. Only 15 were made in total. I took some pictures of one in the transport museum near where I live.

Nice MOC! I really like the detailing on the wheels as well as the numbering on the side. Everything in this is just about true to the photos of the real thing. One thing I would suggest for improvement though is that you make the front less triangular (for lack of a better word). It may just be me, but I think the railing looks a little like the vertex of a triangle. You might not be able to do much about it, but I think it's mainly due to the cone pieces you've used as part of the railing. Perhaps it would be better if you swapped them for 1 x 1 cylinders?

Still, great MOC. ANZFOL frontpage quality for sure!

Nice work Cpt Havoc.

It's a pretty good likeness of the original, I particularly like the little details like the red boxes on the running boards.
