Greetings From Sunny Canberra
Hello all.
I'm new to the whole online communities thing. Having only just recently come out of the closet as a LEGO fan.
My own story is so similar to everyone's that it doesn't really bare repeating.
But I will.
I loved LEGO as a kid. My favourite set was the Yellow Castle 375. I built and re-built that castle so many times. But at about 15 my parents decided I was too old for such things and I was made to give away ALL my LEGO. javascript:emoticonp('')
Flash forward to nearly twenty years in my future and while investigating the relative merits of eBay I was told that one can buy ANYTHING on eBay. The first thing to come to mind was that lost yellow castle of mine. So I searched for LEGO castle and was bowled over by the number of hits. I bought a castle and basically went crazy from there.
A good deal of my time and my income went in to LEGO for the next 5 or so years (feel free to psychoanalyse that)
Now I am slowing down my consumption and focussing on quality of work not quantity. I have yet to create any big or significant MOCs - but I have lots of ideas. I am more a collector than anything else.
I don't have a speciality - but I like all the Star Wars UCS models. And I also like the Sculpture sets. I like castles/trains/cars in fact if it's LEGO I'll collect it.
I still have difficulty justifying my obsession with NON fol adults. (hence the closeted comment above) but I have found it worth the occasional upraised eyebrow from an acquaintance - no one has yet failed to be interested when they see the collection on display. Even the most sceptical finds something they like.
I am married with two sons. Both of whom are LEGO-haulics too.
I am a self employed chef javascript:emoticonp('') born and raised in Canberra. (only those born in the 'berra get to bash the 'berra!)

Re: Greetings From Sunny Canberra
Let me be the first to welcome you.
Don't worry I know your exact feelings with Lego. I'm forutante my wife is understanding (most fo the time) and actually will go out and buy it whilst I'm at work.
Being in Canberra will interest Captain Zuloo, as another fellow Canberrian Lego holic.

Haha, welcome Stephen, fellow Brick Expo committee member.
I'm sure you'll find our IT based LEGO discussions almost as cool as the face-to-face ones.

Re: Greetings From Sunny Canberra
Thanks for all the warm welcomes.
Yep I am on the organising committee for the Brick Expo (with Cptn Zuloo) and while we have the organisational aspects all stitched up - we will need all local members to tell a friend and bring a gang to the Expo in August.

I fly this baby solo in a forward direction like all other Passenger Planes however should you choose my loyal companion (the four legged kind) and I to fly my Millennium Falcon then expect the lot.
