Build Your City Contest
ANZFOL is proud to announce its first building contest: Build Your City Contest! The idea is fairly straight foward. You build something from your city. Be it natural landmark, a building or a vehicle, if it is found in your city, build it!
The more unique to your town or city the better.
The rules are as follows:
The contest will run from today, the 3rd of September until 6:00PM (Canberra Time) on the 30th of October.
One 800x600 image (maximum) of your MOC plus one 800x600 image (maximum) of your real-life subject must be provided for judging which will be conducted by public vote at the close of the contest. If you want to share more images, we encourage you to start a topic in the CITY forum about your entry.
Post your entries in this thread in which you should make one post per entry sharing your entry with the picture for judging, the picture of your subject and any information you deem important to your entry. Again, we encourage you to create a topic for your entry.
You may enter as many times as you like.
Staff (not including Kelly Gang Members) are void from prizes, although encouraged to build something for the fun of it anyway.
You may only enter the contest if you are a member of ANZFOL (or how else will you post your entry? ) and you can sign up and post your entry until the deadline of the 30th of September.
The prizes, kindly donated by Darth Legois, are as follows:
First Prize: 7634 LEGO CITY Tractor
Second Prize: 8402 LEGO CITY Sports Car
Third Prize: 8398 LEGO CITY BBQ Stand
If you have any questions, please ask them here.

Re: Build Your City Contest
I might be a bit slow, but I take it the subject is something from your home town, i.e. the Sydney Harbour Bridge if you're from Sydney?
Also, well done to whoever came up with the idea and toVaŋılla Darth Legois (I can't keep up )for supplying the prizes!! :D3

Re: Build Your City Contest
Correct, something from your home town. So yes, the Sydney Harbour Bridge would be a good one for a Sydney member.
Re: Build Your City Contest
I'll probably build Mount Coolum, one of the biggest monoliths in the world. If you're lucky, I'll even include the rock that's underground.
EDIT: Expect it to be a mini! No way I'm making something that big.

Sounds cool YG-49! :
I have made a slight modification to the rules, nothing big though. All it is: Could you please also provide a (maximum 800x600) of your real-life subject for comparison in the same post in the entry thread as your MOC judging photo.

Re: Build Your City Contest
Very nice theme.
I'll try to get something together in time.
Nice one Captain

Re: Build Your City Contest
Hi All,
It might be an idea to extend the deadline a month for this contest, I know a few of us had already commited to the Eurobricks train contest when this was announced. Since we've only had entries from one person so far It looks like extra time would be a good thing. I'd cetainly love to enter, but wont get a chance without a time extention.

Re: Build Your City Contest
Indeed this has been discussed by the staff and we have decided to extend the contest. It would be a shame to waste such brilliant prizes. SO the new deadline is October 30 2009.

I wouldn't mind. :Captain Zuloo wrote:It would be a shame to waste such brilliant prizes. SO the new deadline is October 30 2009.
I might even enter something now that I have more time. :

Re: Build Your City Contest
I saw that coming. Maybe Anzfol can keep the competition running indefinately, just until there is an entry they like.
The Tower I made was a quick whip up to at least get some runs on the board and encourage others to do better.
However the Carillian was a 12 hour build for me, not that easy to find the time as a parent and with full time employment.
4 weeks is a reasonable amount of duration for a competition. But if I'd known there was going to be double that I would have built something completely different. Hopefully there will be some more entries.

Re: Build Your City Contest
Why would you have built something different? The Carillian was one of the coolest real-life architecture MOCs I've seen!
The main problem was that everyone was already tied up with the Eurobricks Train Tech Contest, and there was 3 prizes for 2 entries.
And you got your signature working. : What did you do?

I probably should have voiced my concern earlier to be fairer to any on time entries, but I just thought I would miss this comp due to my commitment to Eurobricks train comp. My request was due to the fact that I think the intent of the comp was to promote the site as an active community, and from that point of view I'd like to participate by entering, and I knew I was already commited for September. I was also a little saddend there were not more entries.

Re: Build Your City Contest
Don't worry peterab, the staff had decided to extend the contest before you spoke up. The entire idea of this contest was to hopefully gain some more members and get the ones we already have more active. So sorry to Bodville, but the best thing I can suggest is that we pass the word about ANZFOL around, then there will be enough people actually participating to have a varied contest. For sure we could have given the prizes to Bodville, but where's the fun in having no competition? Although against that awesome MOC he entered, there isn't much competition anyway.
Re: Build Your City Contest
For the thing I might be making I don't think I have a reference pic....So it might not work also I'm kinda busy with Prohibition Mafia (setting stuff up and taking the teaser pic tonight) and other Projects
Re: Build Your City Contest
What are you building that doesn't have a reference pic? Send me a PM and I'm sure I'll find something.Darth Legois wrote:For the thing I might be making I don't think I have a reference pic....So it might not work also I'm kinda busy with Prohibition Mafia (setting stuff up and taking the teaser pic tonight) and other Projects
Re: Build Your City Contest
I wouldn't worry about it, there was only one. I was also disapointed with the lack of responses but the Captains comment about my entry being a waste, was....well, insulting.peterab wrote:I probably should have voiced my concern earlier to be fairer to any on time entries....
I'm glad they extended it. It's a cool theme. I hope to see some more entries.
Oh and I saw your turn-table on EB, nice one. You have been busy.
Re: Build Your City Contest
Oh, sorry! You took that he wrong way. I was saying it would be a shame to waste the great 2nd and 3rd prizes because there was no-one to give them to. And I think your MOCs are awesome mate, I thought you knew me better than that?Bodville wrote:

Re: Build Your City Contest
Question: if you can enter more than once, in the entry thread you are only allowed to post once. How would you enter your second entry?
Thanks
