Buying a Lego 9v Speed regulator from another county Help please
Hi all im thinking about buying a Lego Train 9v Speed Regulator 4548.
From Germany as they seem to have a lot of 9v train gear for cheap
However im worried do i need a travel adapter? or do i need an actual Currant converter?
or is there any other countries that i would only have to buy a travel adapter to use here in Australia?
i hope someone can help out as i cant seem to find a Speed Regulator for sale here in Australia.

It is 220V in Germany, and would only require a plug converter from either a travel goods store or an electronics store like Jaycar.

The other alternative is buy an overseas controller, and just replace the wall wart with an Aussie one. I'm pretty sure Bricklink or Eurobricks had pictures of the panel with the output characteristics so you can get a reasonably close match.

You'd need a voltage converter. But may be cheaper to find a generic Aussie 9V plugpack transformer. Please don't quote me on that voltage as I am at work and can't grab mine to check

He only needs a pin adaptor, our mains voltage has dropped down to 230 now.....close enough as long as he doesn't want to run a train for 12 hours straight.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to use a pin adaptor for a US transformer. They still use 110V don't they?Lightningtiger wrote:He only needs a pin adaptor, our mains voltage has dropped down to 230 now.....close enough as long as he doesn't want to run a train for 12 hours straight.

Our mains voltage is nominally 240 V AC 50 Hz 2 pin + earth. US mains voltage is 110 V AC 2 pin, unearthed at the plug: separate wire. Using a pin adaptor will most likely blow up the 110 V transformer, probably violently risking fire and / or personal injury.

Exactly what I was thinking. The European transformers should all be ok with an adaptor since they are all probably designed for 240, 230 or 220V but given an Australian transformer would be pretty cheap I personally would just buy a suitable one and plug it into any overseas controller.
