Yesterday I got stuck into my Lego and built a 'car van' type coach for the Kotanga Tramway. I based it around the earlier type of coaches used on New Zealand Railways such as the 'Gumdiggers', but gave it a unique Kotanga appearance by converting it into a car van using the 3644 doors as if the conversion work had been done in the tramway workshops. I'm planning on building a plain unconverted coach as well, only I'll need to get more of the old 7026bc01 windows before I can do that.

Sorry about the quality of the photo, I'm not much of a photographer I'm afraid.

Thanks LT legohappy I would say that with the type of mixed trains that would be mostly running on the Kotanga Tramway that this car van would get used to carry mail, parcels, general freight that needs to be kept under cover and what have you ,- along with carrying some passengers of course! During the Summer season the consist would be strengthened with a second coach, or even another car van to carry holiday makers' luggage. I've got a slightly modded green MOT coach that will run as the second coach and when I've found enough parts I'll build a second car van that will be mostly the same as this one. Possibly one more coach of some description and that will be the entire coaching stock of the Kotanga Tramway taken care of and I can think about making some logging bogies which should keep me quiet for a while.

Further construction of rolling stock for the Kotanga Tramway has been taking place.......

Late 19th Cent 4 wheel guards van as modified by the Kotanga Tramway for use on the logging branch. When i find the right bits there will be a brake wheel and standard in the guard's compt as well as a stove. I'm still thinking through a guards ducket for this guards van. Not entirely happy with the coach type doors on the guard's compt, but I couldn't find anything better.

I must've made about 4 attempts to make a goods van I liked the look of before I ended up with this one. Most passenger trains on the Kotanga Tramway will be mixed trains so it will be quite usual for one of these vans to be included in the consist. Btw the information plate on the solebar is only a placeholder until I can make something more appropriate.
I really need to make at least a second van, only I'm short one or two pieces so they will have go on next month's Bricklink order.

How on earth did I miss this post!? I love the red colour and it's kind of a stylish carriage too Annie. The addition of the cat and Friends chara makes it quite cute!

Thanks Kaila legohappy

The little lady with the big spanner is Olivia from the Friends 'Olivia's Workshop' set. When she's working around the tramway's locos and rolling stock I change out her original hairstyle for that high ponytail one. I don't think I've got any photos, but when she's helping out the station staff she wears a blue peaked cap with her original hairstyle. Mini-figs and mini-fig parts from the Friends sets are very easy to buy in bulk from various ebay traders and my plan is to assemble some female tramway staff members to work alongside all my traditional Lego railway mini-figs.

I'm amazed that the Olivia's Workshop set was so unpopular. As soon as it came out I purchased two of them and I wouldn't mind getting some more to stash away. Once I get as far as building the tramway loco shed I'm planning on including a workshop annex for Olivia as a part of the loco servicing area.
She does look awfully cute with that huge spanner though; - once she found that it was no more purple set box tools for her! legolaugh

The tramway does have a few resident cats, but that little Lego one is the only kitty that can appear in official photos as the rest are from clone sets.

MOC. A coach for the Kotanga Tramway. NewTrainee_zps58228fa3
A new trainee has just started at the Kotanga Tramway. Young Sid the porter thinks she's a bit of alright, but Harry the guard is about to tell young Gloria to go to the parcels office for a 'long weight'. If Harry doesn't watch out he might get his wooden leg put in a place where it's difficult to walk with it.

I received the first of a couple of orders for 2nd hand Friends mini-doll parts this morning and in amongst all the bits was a torso with a sleeveless white top and a pair of arms attached that were definitely more developed than the other mini-doll arms. I have no idea what Friends character they came from, but I decided to use this torso as the basis for Gloria the porteress. I will have to get her some trousers to replace that red dress and when I can find some more black peaked caps she will get one too and not have to wear a red trainee's cap anymore.
My Mum worked as a porteress on the railways during the war and her best friend Gloria who was also a porteress once decked an American soldier with a single punch when he pinched her on the bottom white she was collecting tickets on a crowded suburban train. Ok she did have her clippers clenched in her fist, but it was still a pretty impressive punch according to Mum.
