As a Lego train person you would think I would be excited by these.
These sets have a lot of pieces that I don't want.
I do look forward to seeing them and getting some build ideas.

But what's with the confidential stamp?
You'll get ANZFOL in trouble with TLC with these Captain.

I quite like them, but agree that almost any train set designed for kids isn't going to be ideal. However these could turn out to be a pretty good deal given they have the new PF battery, controller, and IR reciever in them (depending on the local price of course).

I dont think he will because they aren't hosted by ANZFOL. Other larger lego sites dont directly show them because lego bribes them not to, with early info, prizes etc. I doubt ANZFOL is big enough to be risking anything yet. I'd say it's pretty cool untill lego requests them to be removed, and they'll probably go Brickshelf and Flickr first.

Both the Passenger Train # 7938 and Train Station # 7937 have arrived in my favourite store here in Tassie so without any hesistation I just put two of each on Lay By just so I can have a realistic look to my ever increasing City Layout.

I've seen those two sets in Toyworld at Epping, but I hope I'll be able to find the station somewhere on sale, and I'm not sure if I'll get the passenger train.

Because these trains dont include the rechargable battery, but instead a 6x AAA battery box, I don't think they're such great value, but I'll still probably buy one copy of the freight train.

I agree with that, I was hoping they would have the rechargable battery so I could power my Emerald Night and use the rest of the set as a parts pack. However I don't see me purchasing these sets as I have just bought a new computer which has taken a lot of my money, and I don't think any of the new sets are good enough to warrant the extra cash.

There will be a temporary lull in my Lego spending untill I've paid for a new solar hot water system. Hoping to lower our gas bills and save money in the long run, but it requires an investment up front. I hope to be able to still afford the freight train though, and if the last lot of trains is any indication, these will be around for a few years.

I've never own Lego trains, so I'm really curious as to how the rechargeable batery box system is over using AAA batteries? Do you guys have many of these rechargeable battery boxes? At $100 a pop its really a huge investment. I wonder if bricklink is any cheaper?

The high price, and the fact that according to BTTW the recharger comes with a European power point, and the fact that you can only get it from S@H, has stopped me from even looking at the rechargable battery box. I'd be surprised if BL even has many rechargable batteries.

Now going a little off topic.

the set number was K8882. It cost around ~130 while the dollar was still @$US0.92 per dollar. Still good value compared with shop at home. I guess it depends on how long your AA batteries last. You could always buy a truckload of rechargeable AAs for ~$60...

The power pack uses 220-240 volts, so a travel adapter will do the job. I have also successfully used a 'generic hobbyist supply store' universal power pack to charge it happily enough - there is a plug in point on the back of the pack, as well as a 'maximum speed adjuster'.

So I picked up my first train set today and after building it, I was like hmmm this is kinda cool I guess, then after starting it up, yippee, I get why folks love lego trains.
I played with it for a good bit and left it built so when i picked up my kids from school and day care they got to see it when they came in to the lounge room, their faces lit up and they were pretty much jumping up and down with excitement.
Control went to the youngest son first somehow and he squeeled with glee as he turned the dial and set the train to full speed and laughed himself silly when the train derailed and took out the mini station.
Then my other 2 boys had a go while their baby sister just sat there laughing at this train going around in a loop.
Good times with the kids, more of these to come me thinks

I'm tantalisingly close to seeing my 2 Passenger Trains doing the same.

Just two more payments of my Lay-By and then I am going to be putting them together as fast you can say "choo, choo"

Free Spirit, I look forward to seeing the trains included in your town display. Perhaps you could modify them to add magnets to the front so you can join two together?
Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the Vegemite thing, only 150 more posts until the next group. :P

I honestly didnt think I would like it as much as I do, It was purchased more as a curiosity piece I guess.
I still have some hornby train sets at my parents place, that my dad will occasionally play with, I think the train thing must run in the family as we both love a day at the Ipswich Rail Museum as well.
I will have to go get the cargo train set next.

Well I bought one with my last order of the space shuttle, I don't like the idea of throwing all those AAA batteries in the bin. I can guarantee that the charger comes with an Australian plug (at least mine did).

Well we built the train station today and added the track and crossing from a second station and the track repair set as well so we have a decent loop going.
We also added some more random minifigs to add some life to the set.

I also ordered the loop set from bricks to the world so we can have a bit more fun with this, my dad also came over today and he was suprised it was lego, he was also suprised with the cost.
I think I will track down the cargo train set next

Thanks for the news Intrastella, that does make a big difference to my view of the battery. BTTW made an order very early (in the hopes of selling them with the Emerald Night) so I assume they have now corrected the plugs for Australian orders.

I bought a bunch of AAA rechargables to put in my yellow cargo train, and the cost was pretty similar to the US price of the battery, so I may even order one from there, since I expect the one from lego to have a greater capacity than 6 individual batteries since it will probably use the space more efficiently.

Well we got the cargo train set and the loop set from bttw, there are other things I have that we havent put out, due to packing up.
There will always be this thrill for little boys and trains, my boys are 9,7 and 2 3/4 and all 3 of them love the trains, my little girl, well she likes to p[lay babyzilla !!

Is there any software you can get that helps with track layouts?
Something where you tell it what parts you have and it spits out various designs?

Question, I picked up a second passenger train from Myer today and was wondering if there is anything I need to do to get it to be used with the same controller as the other one but on a different channel?At present I run one passenger and one cargo on the one controller but looking at it I should be able to run a whole heap from the one yeah?

I'm pretty sure you just push the tab down on the IR receiver(on each train) e.g. Passenger train 1 on 1 passenger train 2 on 2, cargo train on 3.

Cheers for that, went back and checked the instructions and found what I needed to know
